In December, 1974, U100 was the hot new radio station in the Twin Cities. A few months earlier, they had flipped from Oldies to a hybrid Rock/Top 40 format. Program Director Rob Sherwood performed the format flip before a live audience at the Minnesota State Fair. Most of the old airstaff was let go after the change. The midday talent remained the same, however. WYOO’s “Tall Robert Hall” became U100′s “Brother Bob Hall.” It was a good choice since Robert had the talent and certainly had the pipes to pull off the transition to a more youthful audience.
This is one of the few airchecks on this site which I did not personally record. 11 years ago, Curt Lundgren sent me this tape. As you may know, Curt spent many years on the Minneapolis/St. Paul radio dial with WCCO AM and FM. Though I listened to U100 extensively, I was only 10-12 years old at the time, so I didn’t have much tape of the station. Needless to say, Curt’s contribution to my collection of the “Supah Yewww” was greatly appreciated.
