Letters! We get letters…and file attachments, too!
Phil Jaye who currently does mornings for Midwest in Battle Creek, MI, sent me this earlier today:
“Y100 in Green Bay-Appleton-Oshkosh before Midwest Communications. I’m not sure of the date, but this would probably be the fall of 1995.
WNCY signed on as part of the Central States Group who also owned WNFL-AM, WKFX (olides 104.9 at the time) and WROE in Appleton. The stations were purchased by Midwest Communications in 1996. The charter staff on the radio station consisted of:
J.J. & Terry (Mornings)
Amber Thomas (Midday)
Art Opperman (Afternoons)
Phil J. (Evenings)
On this aircheck, Phil J. is filling in for J.J. w/Terry Cordingly.”
So, there you have it! Here’s what they sounded like…

Wow, that brings back memories! Been a long time since I have heard an aircheck from the Y-100 days. Good times!

Hi Terry,
Phil Jaye and I started out together as “Baby DJ’s” in Fort Dodge, IA. He told me you guys had a great time in Green Bay. Sounds like it!

I saw an old friends name on the charter list of announcers. Art Opperman and I worked together at WFSR in Harlan KY back in the early 80′s. If anyone knows how to get in touch with him, let me know. Would love to hear from him.
