Many people remember the HITS 105 vs Z93 CHR war in La Crosse. But did you know that WLXR-FM was once Beautiful Music? This promo from late 1982 proves it! Several downtown businesses are mentioned in this aircheck. How many are still around, 27 years later?
WLXR-FM was a tough catch from my location in Apple Valley, MN. They were only 3,000 watts. KRFO-FM in Owatonna, MN was also on 104.9 and much closer to me. But by getting just the right angle on my “beam”, I was able to pull them in with just a trace of white noise caused by KRFO-FM. Equipment used was a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver, Winegard 10 element FM yagi antenna, Alliance rotor, Belden RG59 ultra loss coaxial cable, Technics stereo cassette deck, and TDK SA90 tape.
