What’s Open & Closed on St. Patrick’s Day

Wondering what is open and what is closed on St. Patrick’s Day? You’re not alone! Here’s a quick list of what is open and closed on St. Patrick’s Day: Friday, March 17, 2017:

Government offices will be open. Federal, state, county, and city offices will be open regular business hours. Post Offices will be open and mail will be delivered on regular schedule. Public buildings such as libraries have normal hours of operation.

Banks will be open.

Stock markets will be open.

Schools will be open. This includes primary schools, high schools, colleges, and universities. The exception is if you’re in an area which has experienced severe winter weather. If that’s the case, you may have a snow day today!

Most shopping malls and shopping centers will be open normal hours. This includes the anchor stores typically found in malls: Sears, JCPenney, Dillard’s, Belk, Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergners, the Bon-Ton, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Herberger’s, Younkers, and Nordstrom. Several stores will be featuring St. Patrick’s Day sales with discounts, deals, and special promotions.

Most supermarkets and grocery stores will be open normal hours: Kroger, Dillons, King Soopers, Cub, Rainbow Foods, ALDI, Randalls, Sav-a-Lot, Safeway, Vons, Baker’s, Winn-Dixie, Albertsons, Publix, Food Lion, Gerbes, BI-LO, Harris Teeter, Carrs, Genuardi’s, Jewel-Osco, Meijer, A&P, Food City, Fry’s, Hy-Vee, Ingles, Cashwise/Coborn’s, Owens, Food4Less, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, Hornbacher’s, H-E-B, QFC, Giant Eagle, Shaw’s/Star Market, Raley’s, and Sweetbay.

Most “big box” stores will be open normal hours: Best Buy, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, The Home Depot, Lowes, PetSmart, Kohl’s, Toys R Us, Costco, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Sam’s Club, Burlington Coat Factory, Old Navy, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Target, Trader Joes, SkopKo, Kmart, IKEA, Meijer, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Barnes & Noble, Ross, Menards, Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Big Lots, Dick’s Sporting Goods, PetSmart, etc.

Your favorite bars and restaurants will be open normal hours with St. Patrick’s Day food and drink specials: Texas Roadhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse, T.G.I. Friday’s, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Hooters, Chili’s, Applebee’s, On The Border, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Robin, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery, O’Charley’s, Ruby Tuesday, Olive Garden, Logan’s Roadhouse, Bonefish Grill, Red Lobster, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Outback Steakhouse, and Romano’s Macaroni Grill, just to name a few.

Movie theaters and cinemas are open.

Nearly all casinos and other gaming facilities will be open.

Liquor stores and ABC stores are open.

Recreation centers are open.

Trash and garbage collection will proceed on normal schedule in most areas.

Buses, trains, subways, and other public transportation will run as normal.

In summary, nearly everything will be open with normal hours of operation on March 17, 2017. Although St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday, it is not a legal holiday such as Christmas Day or the 4th of July.
