UPDATED MARCH 24, 2017
I have been receiving lots of e-mails asking “Where are those Filet-O-Fish deals?” We’re almost to the end of March, but the specials seem to be few and far between. Sorry, CheapoLifers. We’re also still waiting to hear of the first 2017 Filet-O-Fish Friday.
In the past, we’ve seen various sale prices for a Filet-O-Fish during February, March and April. The specials begin after Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday, continue through March and St. Patrick’s Day (don’t forget your Shamrock Shake), and usually end on Good Friday or Easter Sunday. 99 cents, $1.29, $1.49, 2 for $2, 2 for $2.22, 2 for $2.50, 2 for $3, 2 for $3.33, and 2 for $4 have been the common Filet-O-Fish promotional prices in past years. Due to food price inflation, the 99 cent and 2 for $2 specials are likely gone forever.
Last year, most deals were in the range of 2 for $4.00 to 2 for $5.00. Even in areas without a dedicated Filet-O-Fish discount, they were included in the McDonald’s McPick 2 for $5 promotion. This is probably your best option at restaurants where it is available. Be sure to check the McDonald’s app on your phone. Every so often, a “Buy One Sandwich, Get One Free” coupon code will pop up. I used this on Valentine’s Day to get a 2-for-1 Filet-O-Fish.
Be sure to bookmark this page! We will list this year’s Filet-O-Fish sales if and when they become available. If YOU spot a special deal, be sure to let us know! This promotion has been around every year for as long as I can remember. I am 52 years old and can recall when it was 49 cents, so this offer has lasted for a long time! Nothing beats a discounted Filet-O-Fish sandwich at McDonald’s!
McDonald’s is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a Buy One Get One FREE deal on any sandwich! This is another of those great “app only” deals that pop up frequently. You must have the McDonald’s App installed on your phone to take advantage of this offer. Don’t have the app? Download it free at McDonalds.com. Then, simply show and scan the bar code to get a free sandwich of your choice when you purchase one of equal or greater value.
Offer valid only on Valentine’s Day: Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at participating locations. May not be available in all areas. Not valid in conjunction with any other coupon or special promotional discount. Excludes McPick 2 and Everyday Value Menu items. Most McDonald’s restaurants will be open regular hours on Presidents Day (Monday, February 20.)
McDonald’s has brought back their “Cold Days, Hot Deals” lunch and dinner promotion for 2017! In select northern markets, buy one Quarter Pounder with Cheese at the regular price and get the second for yesterday’s noon temperature. If the temperature yesterday at 12:00PM was 12 degrees, you get your second Quarter Pounder with Cheese for just 12 cents! The colder the temperature, the cheaper the Quarter Pounder! If the temperature was 0 or below zero, the second Quarter Pounder is FREE.
So far, this promotion has popped up in Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin. It may be available in other markets as well. Cold days mean hot deals as yesterday’s temperature is the price you pay for today’s second Quarter Pounder with Cheese. This offer is available for a limited time at participating restaurants. Most locations will be open regular hours on MLK Day (Monday, January 16.)
McDonald’s has brought back their “Cold Days, Hot Deals” breakfast promotion for 2017! In select northern markets, buy one Egg McMuffin at the regular price and get the second for yesterday’s noon temperature. If the temperature yesterday at 12:00PM was 12 degrees, you get your second Egg McMuffin for just 12 cents! The colder the temperature, the cheaper the Egg McMuffin! If the temperature was 0 or below zero, the second Egg McMuffin is FREE.

UPDATED NOVEMBER 1, 2016
McDonald’s is offering free food on Veterans Day in select markets. Most McDonald’s restaurants are franchise stores, so offers vary by location. McDonald’s will be serving a free Classic Big Mac Sandwich to vets and active military personnel in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. In Southern California, free medium fries or a baked apple pie will be offered. Other Veterans Day promotions will be offered in various markets. Please call your local restaurant for more information.
To receive your free McDonald’s meal on Veterans Day, simply show proof of military service such as your U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), Veterans Organization Card (i.e., American Legion and VFW), DD214, Citation or Commendation, photograph of yourself in uniform, or simply wear your uniform. This special promotional offer valid on November 11 during regular business hours at participating restaurants.
Thank you, McDonald’s, for serving our military men and women this Veterans Day!
For September, McDonald’s has replaced the Big Mac with the the Triple Cheeseburger their national 2 for $5 McPick promotion. As the name suggests, you pick any 2 items and pay $5.00:
– Triple Cheeseburger
– Quarter Pounder with Cheese
– 10 Piece Chicken McNuggets
In most areas, the single price of these menu items runs around $4 each. Needless to say, getting them for $2.50 each is a great deal. The new McDonald’s 2 for $5 McPick menu is available for a limited time at participating restaurants. Most locations will be open regular hours on Halloween (Monday, October 31.)
This is what I call “Cheap Filet-O-Fish Season.” It’s that magic time of year between Fat Tuesday and Easter Sunday when McDonald’s drops the price of their Filet-O-Fish sandwiches at many locations across the U.S. I have good news and bad news for the 2016 Lenten season. First, the bad news: I have seen fewer deals this year vs in the past. The special spring Filet-O-Fish offer is not a national promotion. Pricing and availability varies by restaurant and region. So far, there just aren’t as many discounted deals for 2016 as there used to be. Hopefully, this will change as we get closer to Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
The GOOD news is that Micky D’s in southern California is repeating their $1.79 Filet-O-Fish Fridays. This is the same price as last year and qualifies as one of the best fish sandwich deals available. The catch is that it’s ONLY available for 7 Fridays and ONLY at select locations. These are the dates:
– Friday, February 12, 2016
– Friday, February 19, 2016
– Friday, February 26, 2016
– Friday, March 4, 2016
– Friday, March 11, 2016
– Friday, March 18, 2016
– Friday, March 25, 2016
Most of the Los Angeles metro area restaurants are honoring this promotion. If one fish sandwich isn’t enough but two are too much, you can add an extra fish patty for just $1.00. Don’t miss $1.79 Filet-O-Fish Fridays, available through Good Friday 2016 at participating southern California McDonald’s restaurants.
Four years ago, McDonald’s began offering their legendary Shamrock Shake at all 14,000 restaurants in the U.S. The Shamrock Shake special has been available on and around St. Patrick’s Day since 1970, but only in certain markets and at specific locations.
How long does McDonald’s sell Shamrock Shakes? For 2016, the minty-green delights will be available through the second half of March. Actual sale dates vary by market. How much does a Shamrock Shake cost? That also varies by region and location. A common promotional price seems to be $1.99 for the small (12 ounce) size. Medium and large Shamrock Shakes will cost more, of course.
As you probably know, all McDonald’s shakes are now served “McCafe style” in clear plastic cups instead of the paper cups used previously. All shakes are also now topped with whipped cream and a cherry, making them look more like a dessert. St. Patrick’s Day only comes once a year, so go ahead and enjoy a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake while they last!
McDonalds’s has officially dropped their Dollar Menu. Actually, it had become the “Dollar Menu & More” menu in recent years with most selections in the “more” category. Rising food and labor costs have necessitated the retirement of Micky D’s Dollar Menu. In it’s place, they have introduced the 2 for $2 McPick Menu.
As the name suggests, you pick any 2 items and pay $2.00. Here are your choices:
– McChicken Sandwich
– McDouble Sandwich
– World Famous Fries (small size)
– 3 Piece Mozzarella Sticks
The new McDonald’s 2 for $2 McPick menu is available for a limited time at participating restaurants. Most locations will be open regular hours on Presidents Day (Monday, February 15) and open holiday hours on Easter Sunday, March 27.
Just wanted to be sure all CheapoLifers know about the Tuesday night deal at certain McDonald’s restaurants: 49 cent hamburgers and 49 cent cheeseburgers. This is typically a 3-hour weekly promotion, valid from 5:00-8:00PM.
I first became aware of this special 17 years ago when I lived in Hays, Kansas. Both McDonald’s locations offered 29 cent hamburgers and 39 cent cheeseburgers on Tuesday nights. Food price inflation later pushed the price to 39 cent hamburgers/49 cent cheeseburgers and finally to the current 49 cent hamburgers/59 cent cheeseburgers. Doing a quick search online shows these McDonald’s are still hosting the weekly Tuesday night hamburger and cheeseburger sale. So are several other locations in the region.
This is one of those McDonald’s deals that you’ll only find in certain states and cities. It’s not likely to be advertised, except on local radio, television, newspapers, and coupon magazines. It’s not available everywhere. At this price, it’s worth a call or visit to your local McDonald’s to see if they offer this or a similar promotion. It may be offered on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights. Not likely on weekend nights, due to the fact that most McDonald’s restaurants are usually very busy during these times. Check around and find out!
