This aircheck appeared earlier as part of my ‘Sioux Falls Dial Scan’ compilation. But I wanted to include it individually as well. Don Berry was the evening jock on KPAT as 1982 came to a close. This was KSOO’s FM sister station, back when owners were only allowed one AM and one FM per market. The format was Adult Contemporary, competing directly against KELO-AM. AM radio was still dominant in Sioux Falls with KSOO, KELO, KXRB, KKRC, and WNAX out of Yankton.
I was able to receive KPAT pretty well on most days from my location in Apple Valley, MN. There is a bit of adjacent channel bleed from local KTCR-97.1. My Winegard 10 element FM yagi did a nice job of nulling most of the interference out, however. It was connected to a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver with Belden RG59 ultra low loss coaxial cable. An Alliance U-100 Tenna Rotor spun it around as needed. The recording was made to a Technics stereo cassette deck with Scotch Dynarange 90 tape.

Hi Scott,
That Winegard FM beam gave me my first taste of Sioux Falls radio. Before then, I was limited to hearing KKRC-AM vs KELO-AM for a few hours in the summer when we drove from the Twin Cities to the Black Hills.
Too funny! The *song* was new, but neither artist was anywhere *close* to new! LOL!
