As if the large crowds and traffic jams on the day after Christmas weren’t enough to keep you away from the Mall of America, it has been reported that several fights broke out yesterday. Mall of America officials released a statement saying that around 4:20PM on December 26, 50 juveniles caused a large disturbance in the north food court.
Some of those who witnessed the chaos reported near-riot conditions. They said the fights started after there were reports that rappers Lil’ Wayne and Drake were shopping at the Mall. Police said as many as 200 people were involved in the melee. Nine were arrested for disorderly conduct. As the fights broke out, the Mall of America called for a lock down. But the lock down was called off just minutes later. Some stores closed early for the night and some shoppers were evacuated from the mall
Several people captured video and audio clips of the altercations and posted them on You Tube. One video showed people throwing chairs in the food court. The videos have since been removed, however. Hopefully, this is an isolated incident and fights at Minnesota’s Mall of America will not become a recurring problem.
